Kaduna: Policeman kills man over girlfriend

THE police in Kaduna State have commenced investigation into the killing of one Moses Jimoh Aminu by a Corporal, after a heated argument over a girlfriend in the Barnawa area of the state capital.
The deceased, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, was said to have told his parent that he was going to a night party in company of some friends that fateful weekend, but never returned as a police corporal, Alex Okpe, shot and killed him.
The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr Olufemi Adenaike, told journalists in Kaduna that from the information available to him in the case file, the suspect was called by his girlfriend to come and take her at a place along Keffi Road, Barnawa, Kaduna on September 29, 2013 around 10.30 p.m.
He said when the suspect got to the place and took his girlfriend on a bike, on their way, they were asked to stop by four young men including the deceased, who insisted that the lady must not go with the policeman.
An argument, therefore, ensued between them which later resulted in brawl and subsequent firing of warning shots before Moses Jimoh Aminu was shot and killed.
"Investigation is going on into the matter. The good thing is that as I'm talking to you, the suspect is already in the cell and we have commenced investigation. And if he is found guilty, we will give him an in-house trial and summary dismissal so that he can face the law for homicide. But in this case, investigation has to be concluded.
"I have also informed the family of the deceased to apply for the corpse of the deceased so that it can be released to them for burial, but as I'm talking to you, they have not applied. Whenever they apply, I can assure you that we will release the corpse to them," he said.
